Overview
Zread is an AI tool for exploring and understanding GitHub repositories. You paste a repo URL or search by keywords and it helps you get oriented in a codebase without reading every file yourself, with support for adding private repos alongside public ones.
It also serves as a discovery layer, surfacing trending repositories each week and recommending ones you might like based on topics and tags (AI agents, MCP, LLMs, and so on).
Beyond the web app, it ships a Zread MCP server so repo understanding can be plugged into AI assistants and agent workflows, and a Zread CLI for working against local repos from the terminal.
It's aimed at developers evaluating unfamiliar projects, keeping up with what's trending, or onboarding into a new codebase.
