Overview
Portable Computer is Perplexity's local-first agent stack that runs on NVIDIA DGX Spark. It installs the full agent harness, orchestrator, planner, tool router, and post-trained models (PPLX 27B or Qwen 3.8 27B, with NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Lightning coming soon) locally on hardware you own, so tasks execute on your Spark and state persists across sessions.
The orchestrator keeps work local by default and only escalates when a step genuinely needs the web or frontier reasoning — asking for approval before routing that single step to one of 15+ cloud models (including GPT-5.5 and Claude Fable 5) and bringing the result back to the local run.
Code and tools execute in isolated sandboxes with controlled access to local files and connected apps, and connectors for Gmail, Outlook, Slack, and GitHub run through the local orchestrator, alongside Perplexity Search and wide/deep research.
Because local runs carry no per-token charge, high-volume jobs like repo-scale migrations or batch summarization become practical to run at cost of compute.
Requires a DGX Spark (GB10, 128 GB memory, 1 TB+ storage) and is available today for Perplexity Pro and Max subscribers.
