What is AIProxy?
AIProxy is a service designed to protect API keys for Mac and iOS apps. It prevents shipping secret API keys in the client and eliminates the need to build a custom backend. AIProxy allows users to monitor API usage, create custom rate limits, and override models directly from its dashboard. It offers API key protection and endpoint security through a fully managed proxy, supporting various AI providers like OpenAI, Stability AI, DeepL, and Anthropic.
How to use AIProxy?
Integrate the AIProxySwift client library into your app. Configure the service using either a partial key and service URL from the developer dashboard or, for BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) use cases, use your unprotected API key. Use the provided code snippets to make API calls.
Does AIProxy store API keys?
No, AIProxy does not store customer API keys. Instead, it encrypts the key and stores one part of the encrypted result in its database. The other part is sent with requests from the app. The secret key is derived when the two pieces are combined.
What if someone steals my AIProxy key?
The key provided by AIProxy is useless on its own and can be hardcoded in the client. AIProxy encrypts the OpenAI key and stores only half, giving the other half to the user for use in their client. These two pieces are combined and decrypted when a request is made.
What if someone uses my AIProxy endpoint?
AIProxy has multiple mechanisms to restrict endpoint abuse, including proxy rules to enable only necessary endpoints, Apple's DeviceCheck service to ensure requests originate from legitimate Apple hardware, and guarantees that DeviceCheck tokens are only used once.
How does AIProxy handle scaling?
The proxy is deployed on AWS Lambda, allowing it to scale horizontally behind a load balancer.
How do I integrate using Swift?
After configuring your project in the developer dashboard, you'll receive initialization code to drop into the AIProxySwift client.
